Visionary director to direct new Sci-fi short series using Machinima.
Mashable has reported today that Ridley Scott is teaming up with the newly revamped Machinima network to produce 12 original science fiction short films that could be the testing ground for new movie franchises.
The bad news is Ridley Scott won’t actually be directing any of the new shorts, but Scott and Machinima.com will work together to handpick directors from Scott’s production company, RSA. While we are disappointed Scott himself won’t actually be firing up the UDK or Valve’s Source engine to personally direct the in-game camera, the list of potential director’s in the RSA arsenal is just as jaw-dropping. We are very excited by the idea of possibly seeing Machinima from Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty,) Neill Blomkamp (District 9,) or Sam Mendes (Skyfall.) All of which, we are sure will produce stunning work and we are keeping our fingers crossed that some of the films will take place within the Aliens universe.
If this partnership is successful, we hope we’ll see some other directors giving Machinima a try like David Lynch, David Cronenberg (or as we refer to them…“the David’s,”) and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
