Awesome…I was trying update my WP parent theme and I accidentally restarted my machine midway through the process. Of course now after the reboot, my child theme is nowhere to be found on the server…yea.

I’ll have the usual Podscape theme back in action soon.

First day back from Vacation

My first back from the San Diego Comic Con wasn’t as bad as depicted in today’s strip, but it was close. The guy actually had a bigger gun. However, I didn’t think that would be believable.

I really love the lyrical nature of her script for this one. It reminds me of Krazy Kat meets Manga and a great place to start with the upgraded versions of WP and ComicPress.

Just be glad the title header is not using the blink tag.

You may have noticed the site header taking on a distinctively 1994-era web look today. I’m not trying to go all retro and make Podscape a lynx-friendly website (even though the challenge sounds like fun.) I’m actually in the middle of upgrading both WordPress and ComicPress on my server and even though both versions worked beautifully on my test machine, parts are crapping out once I went live with the upgrades.

It should only be a few days to get the site working fully again and the most important stuff like the Comic already works, but if you do notice anything amiss, don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

I’m very excited about the new versions of WordPress and ComicPress and can’t wait to upload the new look for Podscape in the very near future.

Just Kidding! But after reading CNN’s tech article; “Steve Jobs: ‘You won’t be disappointed.’“ The only way I won’t be disappointed by the annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June is if Jobs drops the smear campaign against Flash and at least begrudgingly allows 3rd-Party software houses like Adobe and Unity3d to compile their apps for the Itunes store.

I’ve been ignoring and dodging the pointless “Flash vs. HTML5” debate around the office for a couple of weeks now as I can’t see why a developer would use one tool and purposely exclude the other, just because Steve Jobs tells you too. I like the Sex Pistols, but do I hate Pink Floyd because Johnny Rotten told me too? No. Do I have to limit myself as a web developer because Steve Jobs tells me too? Absolutely not. But just like Punk and Metal in the early 80’s, the Apple vs. Adobe debate is creating the weirdest divide to hit the web community since IE vs. Netscape. If both are hard, heavy, and fast, I want to mosh to them all. Even my level-headed friends in the developer community are getting caught up in this debate and choosing sides.

Sometimes I feel like the last human left alive on a planet of zombies. I’ve never despised one platform over the other. Windows and Visual Studio has it’s strong points just as OS X and Xcode have theirs, sometimes I prefer to work in Eclipse on Ubuntu (most times actually) and other times open source works very well on Windows XP…can’t I just enjoy them all?

I love Actionscript, it is a great language (yes, I said “language,”) not since coding on my C64 has a cool little language come around that is easy to use and allows you to create some pretty amazing graphics programmatically. But I’m also really excited about HTML 5 too. In fact, I cant’ wait to use both together to make truly compelling next generation sites and applications for a variety of devices. I only wish Jobs wouldn’t use his regained power and influence to try and obliterate one tech for a still (for the short term) inferior one.

The usual weekday morning routine of coffee, shower, get dress, run at full speed to catch the train has been replaced today with chaos, property damage, and now a residual distrust of the beautiful black gold known as coffee all before heading off to work.

All that and my cartoon avatar is still without tasting his first cup of coffee yet.

If my cartoon avatar’s coffee addiction is anything like my own, expect him to fall asleep within 5 minutes of eating his toast.

2 minutes if he sits down to butter the toast.

Of course, that is if he will eat his toast at all.

In all honesty, the really only inappropriate part was a pre-alpha build of the game leaked to the torrents, not a release candidate (rc.) I have more regrets for the script-kiddies who wasted their bandwidth downloading an incomplete experience. If you going to download games, at least get the full proverbial “E ticket ride.”
