A Midwinter Night’s Scheming
New Year, new things to plan, new stuff to look forward too, and best of all, a fond farewell to 2009…Maybe farewell is downplaying it a bit, more like “don’t let the bomb shelter door hit you in the head as I throw you out 2009” is a little more appropriate.
Wow, even that seems a little underplayed, maybe the new zeitgeist for the coming decade is trying to reconnect with outrage after decades of irony. So, if outrage is the new irony, does that also make sincerity the new apathy? If so, I better sell my dead-tree versions of Make and RetroGamer magazines while there is still a market for them on ebay. Lord knows I took a bath with the dead-tree version of Boing Boing magazines from the early 90’s.
I just knew 2009 was going to suck, and I can’t believe here I am at the other end having actually survived it. Though, that being said, it did suck even more than I thought it was going too. I missed out on the San Diego Comic Con and the Game Developer Conference, Spore was one the biggest disappointments in my life, and I have hugely mixed feeling over the last episode of Battlestar Galatica.
Then again, New York Comic Con was awesome, Webcomics weekend was absolutely amazing, and I did participate in a two day seminar with Scott McCloud which was as mind expanding as you can get legally. So when you find yourself starting off the year facing the second great depression (something I never hope to relive again in my lifetime,) not only is just standing a major victory, but add the previous good stuff to the mix, and it wasn’t that bad of a year after all. Maybe my new years resolution (besides posting comics twice a week) will be to remember the good stuff more and try to bring back some fun for people in a good and positive way.
Amen, brother! 2009, worst year ever (in the voice of Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons). Good luck to you in 2010, I’ll keep checking for more greatness from Podcape! – Jim
Thanks Jim and good luck to you!! I’m very glad to see Suckerboys starting up again.
